There have had many past events together including the times that they were arrested ten years ago at their home in Phoenix, Arizona. Before we go through the details, we shall focus on their lives in general.
These are two individuals who have a great story behind them. Jim Larkin was studying at Arizona State University before he dropped out in 1972. Apparently, he did that because he was up to something more significant. He teamed up with Michael Lacey at the Phoenix New Times. This is a news corporation that was started due to the reaction towards the protests that were conducted by students to promote antiwar agendas and strategies.
The Phoenix New Times used a straightforward yet effective strategy to gain its fame across Arizona and also other parts of the nation. They used to touch on news that focused on various topics. These sectors included the political issues, economic progress and social issues that people faced. Read more: Phoenix New Times | Wikipedia and Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
This two personnel did all these things well. Michael was the chief editor of that particular company, while Larkin was the Chief Executive Officer who was in charge of the daily operations. These operations included the traditional advertising of the news corporation.
Over the years, everything was going very well. They had already gained fame and were considered one of the best News Corporations at the time. One of their success stories included a multimillion-dollar expansion that expanded throughout the whole country from Coast to Coast. On October 18th, 2007, Jim and Michael were put behind bars. They were arrested with an allegation that they released some unwanted information through the Phoenix News times.
In their paper, the News Corporation said that the grand jury was just targeting the editors and the writers of the articles. They also claimed that they induced harassment on the readers too. This was an action that was done with direct orders from Joe Arpaio, the County Sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona. He calls himself the toughest Sheriff in the United States.
The rest of the nation thinks otherwise about him. They believe that he is just a notorious sheriff. He is known for the fact that he is purely and solely fought against immigration. It was later discovered that the grand jury was all fake.
It comprised of people who had criminal records. This resulted in the shutdown of the grand jury. Apart from the jury members being fake, their warrants were also questionable.
Michael and Jim spent barely a day in mexican jails due to the excessive outcry of the public. In 2013, the County ended up paying $3.75 million due to the lawsuit that was brought forward by Larkin and Lacey. This was due to wrong and unnecessary arrests.
They were so gracious enough to use the money to establish the Frontera Fund. This was an initiative to make sure that the Latin Americans were provided with a settlement.
