Wes Edens is the current co-CEO as well as co-founder of Fortress Investment Group (FIG), which is a company that works with troubled assets. Edens also founded a company called Brightline, which is a rail company that currently services Floridians. Brightline train service provides short jaunts from West Palm Beach to Miami, Florida and back. These train service trips occur many times per day. Mr. Edens noted that more services are coming to other cities in Florida, and also looking to expand services outside Florida.
Mr. Edens has invested in many areas, even sports teams like the NBA’s, Milwaukee Bucks. Wes Edens worked with a fellow finance guru, Marc Lasry to purchase the Bucks in 2014 from Herb Kohl for 500 million dollars. Edens and Marc Lasry were told that the stipulation for buying the Bucks was that they both have to agree to keep the Bucks in Wisconsin if they purchase the team, which both of them agreed to.
In July 2018, Wes Edens and Egyptian Billionaire, Nassef Sawiris agreed to buy the majority stake in Aston Villa, an English soccer team. Tony Xia, who purchased the soccer team in 2016, will remain on the board and be co-chairman. Aston Villa is trying to get back into the Premier League after trying, but not making the cut. As noted by sources, Edens and Nassef Sawiris bought a stake in the Aston Villa soccer team for approximately 39 million dollars.
Concerning Wes Edens’ educational background, Wes earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Business Administration from Oregon State University in 1984. Wes Edens began a career in finances working for Lehman Brothers in 1987. Edens worked his way up to director after a few years at Lehman Brothers. However, in 1993, Edens left Lehman Brothers and joined BlackRock Financial Management, which had a better reputation and more recognition as a financial firm.
In 1998, Wes Edens along with fellow co-founders, Peter Briger, Mike Novogratz, Robert Kauffman, and Randal Nardone created Fortress Investment Group. In addition to co-CEO and co-founder of FIG, Edens is also part of a seven-person board.
